Cillian Murphy Returning for 28 Years Later

We’ve been waiting for this news for a while, but it seems like Cillian Murphy will return for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later.

When asked about the possible return, Sony Pictures chairman, Tom Rothman, recently revealed to Deadline, “Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”

Murphy’s career certainly took a big jump when he played Jim in 28 Days Later in 2002, but fans wondered if his more recent success would keep him away from the horror genre. Luckily, it doesn’t look like it.

“This is Danny (Boyle) at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver,” Rothman adds. “Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”

28 Years Later is slated for release June 20, 2025.
