Maggie Gyllenhaal Shares First Look at The Bride!

Even though it’s almost 18 months away from theaters, director Maggie Gyllenhaal has shared a first look at two characters from her upcoming film, The Bride!, a reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein set in 1930s Chicago.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Gyllenhaal confirmed shooting has begun on the film with images of Jessie Buckley’s Bride and Christian Bale as Frank. The film also includes Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, Julianne Hough, and Peter Sarsgaard to round out the fantastic cast.

The film sees a lonely Frankenstein travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement. The Bride! will arrive in theaters October 3, 2025.
