Lisa Frankenstein and What’s New in Horror This Weekend

If you’re looking for some new horror to watch this weekend, you actually have a few options. Let’s check out what has released this Friday and earlier in the week.

Lisa Frankenstein – Theaters

A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.

Skeletons in the Closet – Shudder

Haunted by a malevolent spirit since childhood, a desperate mother allows herself to become possessed in order to save the life of her terminally ill daughter.

Double Blind – Limited Theaters

The psychological horror follows seven young test subjects who must face a terrifying side effect when an experimental drug trial goes horribly wrong – if you fall asleep you die. Trapped in an isolated medical facility, they must find a way to escape, and somehow manage to stay awake.

Out of Darkness – Limited Theaters

A small boat reaches the shores of a raw and desolate landscape. A group of six have struggled across the narrow sea to find a new home. They are starving, desperate, and living 45,000 years ago. First they must find shelter, and they strike out across the tundra wastes towards the distant mountains that promise the abundant caves they need to survive. But when night falls, anticipation turns to fear and doubt as they realize they are not alone. Terrifying sounds suggest something monstrous at large in this landscape, something that could kill or steal them away. As relationships in the group fracture, the determination of one young woman reveals the terrible actions taken to survive.

Here for Blood – Screambox

Directed by Daniel Turres, Here for Blood follows a down-on-his-luck wrestler (Shawn Roberts; Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil films) and his girlfriend (Joelle Farrow) who are having a hard time making ends meet. When his girlfriend finds herself overwhelmed by exams, muscle-bound wrestler Tom O’Bannon steps in to cover one of her babysitting gigs. But his chill night of junk food and video games quickly takes a turn for the cult-ish when the home is invaded by a gang of mask-wearing maniacs. Isolated and unprepared, Tom, his girlfriend, and a precocious 10-year-old must survive the night by any means necessary. 

Gods of the Deep – VOD

A daring mission leads a deep sea submarine team into a mysterious opening on the ocean floor, and uncover a lost underwater world.

I.S.S. – VOD

Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth. Reeling from this, the astronauts receive orders from the ground: take control of the station by any means necessary. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, working with Nick Shafir’s Blacklist script, brings together a stellar cast that includes Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, Pilou Asbaek, John Gallagher Jr., Costa Ronin, and Masha Mashkova, in a high-stakes thriller set entirely in the confines of the I.S.S. as astronauts are called to duty in fateful and terrifying ways.
