John Waters Returns After 20-Year Hiatus for Liarmouth

It’s been 20 years since John Waters last directed a feature film and that was A Dirty Shame in 2004. The Guardian just reported that the celebrated filmmaker will return with Liarmouth starring Aubrey Plaza soon.

Liarmouth is based on Waters’ first novel of the same name, which he released in 2022 and is called a “a hilariously filthy tale of sex, crime, and family dysfunction.” Liarmouth centers on a scammer and compulsive liar called Marsha Sprinkle who splits from her partner Daryl and steals from both her daughter and her mother.

Early reports stated that the film was ready to start filming in Baltimore, but Waters later issued a statement through Peaches Christ that that “is pure speculation. We have no start date or green light to begin production but are working to, hopefully, make that happen.
