New Horror to Watch this Weekend

The weekend is almost here and horror lovers are looking for something new to watch while waiting for Monday to attack. There are three new releases that might interest you. Let’s check them out.

Coming to video on demand is Departing Seniors, a new teen slasher comedy, is hoping to carve a new path in the shadows of Scream and Freaky. Departing Seniors follows Mexican-American and queer high school student Javier who doesn’t exactly fit in with the popular kids. But he might be the only one who can save them. After an act of bullying sends Javier to the hospital, he begins experiencing visions that foresee glimpses of shocking murders at his school right before they happen. Now, in between navigating the social hierarchies and prejudices of clique culture, Javier and his best friend Bianca must try to unmask a serial killer before he strikes again.

Also available on demand is Somewhere Quiet, which tells the tale of a woman who after escaping a brutal kidnapping, retreats with her husband to his Cape Cod family compound. Experiencing eerie nightmares and haunting visions, her sense of reality further deteriorates, fracturing their already damaged relationship.

If you are a fan of serial killers, yet another film about John Wayne Gacy has been released. Gacy: Serial Killer Next Door is the fictional story of a teenager’s life in a quiet suburb which changes drastically when John Wayne Gacy, a famed serial killer, becomes his neighbor. His curiosity leads to dark secrets and a frightening journey from innocence to a dire clash with evil.

Finally, for you documentary lovers, experience the world of Dario Argento like never before in Simone Scafidi’s documentary, Dario Argento Panico. It offers an intimate look at Argento’s creative journey and impact on horror, with insights from icons like del Toro and Noé. Stream it on Shudder starting February 2.
